Implementation of recognition of (prior) learning and accreditation of learning demonstrated in some other manner

Current challenges:

There are few shared practices for the recognition of (prior) learning and accreditation of learning demonstrated in some other manner, which makes these situations more difficult for both students and teachers. Ready-made templates and pre-considered procedures would facilitate the planning of methods for demonstrating competence.

Shared procedures would also increase the equal treatment of students. Many teachers feel that the recognition of (prior) learning and accreditation of learning demonstrated in some other manner increase their workload, because each student needs personalised guidelines for demonstrating their competence. Moreover, these requirements are placed on teachers unpredictably throughout the year.

In order to solve the challenges related to the practices, responsibilities and principles of higher education institutions, we recommend the following:

  • Students are provided with instructions, examples and models for the
recognition and description of their entrepreneurship competence.
  • It is ensured that students wishing to have their competence recognised and accredited are not left alone without a social network.
  • The process of collaborative learning and joint information formation (i.e. learning between students) is supported as part of the recognition of (prior) learning and accreditation of learning demonstrated in some other manner.
  • The recognition of (prior) learning and accreditation of learning demonstrated in some other manner take place on specific days agreed in advance, which will facilitate the allocation of resources and advance planning.
